We welcome your interest in the MBA program at the Graduate School of Commerce and Management, Hitotsubashi University. Our program, established in 2000 in response to a growing need for full-fledged business schools in Japan, prepares students for professional careers in management and commerce. This program is one of the latest additions to Hitotsubashi University's long history of being at the forefront of business research and education in Japan since the Meiji era.
Part of our tradition is the focus on the social sciences and the ability to analyze social science frameworks. Drawing on this tradition, we have decided to devote more of our curriculum to such aspects as acquisition of theoretical knowledge in the social sciences, mastery of the skills to move between theory and practice, and appreciation of history of and classics in management, than regular business school curricula tend to do. This, we believe, sets us apart from other skill and employability-oriented business school curricula often found in many business schools in Japan and abroad. Another part of the Hitotsubashi tradition is the emphasis on small group seminars where students learn to conduct their own analysis, develop their solutions and communicate them. Our program also emphasizes small-group classes and team learning.
We firmly believe that useful theories are extremely practical and effective practices are based on deep theoretical analysis and hope to contribute to the Japanese and global economy by building a business school based on this philosophy. |
